The Mind Body Connection

Today more people than ever before recognize that the interaction between mind and body is significant – change in one effects change in the other.

Because hypnosis is a natural human ability it is a valuable tool in the enrichment of life. With hypnosis you can expand your awareness, learn new skills, break undesirable habits, instill new positive habits, and constructively address and resolve problems.

In fact by deepening the mind body connection through hypnosis it is possible to accelerate the body’s rate of healing, experience natural childbirth, and even undergo surgery without the use of anesthetic.

There are many uses for hypnosis, including weight loss, stop smoking, building confidence, stress reduction, academic and athletic improvement, emotional self control, memory enhancement, overcoming fears, relationship improvement, test anxiety and recall, insomnia, impotence, dental complaints, and grief release.

Using Hypnosis Appropriately
The American Medical Association and the British Medical Association have both recognized hypnosis as a legitimate and safe adjunct approach to medical and psychological problems.

Hypnosis does not replace appropriate medical or psychological treatment. A written referral may be required from a practitioner of the healing arts before hypnosis conditioning commences.

The training and credentials of your hypnotist will determine what he or she can help you accomplish. A referral to another hypnotist specializing in a specific modality may also be appropriate.

How Hypnosis Helps With Stress
Stress is constant. It assaults us daily in both our personal and professional lives in a multitude of different ways. And while stress is a normal part of life, it is how we deal with stress that determines our physical and mental well being.

The cumulative effects of stress are damaging to both the body and mind and, according to the American Institute of Stress, many of our visits to the doctor are due to conditions that arise from stress. For example anger, a common manifestation of stress, increases an individual’s chances of developing heart disease.

Why? In general it is due in large part to the way we are wired for the fight or flight response.

A simple example. You’re in a hurry, running to the bank during a lunch break. The parking lot is full and you spot someone pulling out, you move into position and then … another car whips into it. Already stressed from hurrying you are now mad. It’s not an option to get out and punch the person who did this, so you fume, and while you fume stress hormones flood your bloodstream with nowhere to go. Your respiration and heart rate has increased, your immune system is suppressed, your muscles are tense, perhaps you feel a headache “coming on” or you may even feel real pain.

One of the first and most immediate results of using hypnosis to manage stress is the calming sensation of physical relaxation. In addition, by focusing the mind on positive images and ideas an individual can separate from the events that created stress and/or learn how to put those events into a healthy perspective. Hypnosis conditioning teaches how to break the stress cycle by incorporating easy techniques into daily life that help redirect or deflect the stress response.
If you consistently practice these techniques the more positive you become, and many situations, that in the past would have upset you, are no longer a source of stress.

How Hypnosis Helps With Stopping Smoking
While some people are able to stop smoking through sheer willpower, most find it difficult to sustain the thought, (and so the action), that they will never smoke again.

Your conscious mind says “I don’t want to smoke, it’s bad for my health” but the subconscious mind, which makes the majority of the decisions based on how it feels about something, says “smoking relaxes me,” and wins the inner conflict. We learn through repetition and every time you smoke you compound the idea that smoking relaxes you, in the same way every time you don’t smoke you compound the idea that you don’t need a cigarette to relax.

By accessing the subconscious mind and reprogramming feelings about smoking, or any other destructive habit, you can eliminate the habit.

You can help your hypnotist by giving specific details on what you look forward to as a non-smoker and your fears about continuing to smoke. Your hypnotist can use this information to help you replace your old program of smoking with a new program of being a non-smoker.

Other habits that can be changed through hypnosis include:
Nail Biting, Bed Wetting, Tobacco Chewing
Hair Pulling, Thumb Sucking, Skin Picking

How Hypnosis Helps With Sleep Problems
Whether you have difficulty falling asleep, staying asleep or getting deep, restful sleep, lack of quality sleep is frustrating and debilitating. During the day fatigue, difficulty concentrating, feeling irritable and helpless contributes to the cycle of being unable to fall asleep, stay asleep and sleep soundly.

When we do fall asleep and stay asleep our brain waves gradually slow down giving our bodies and minds time to regenerate. Hypnosis is a calming and relaxing process that can be used to induce brain wave patterns that promote healthy sleep.

There are many reasons why refreshing sleep becomes elusive to someone and hypnosis can help uncover and resolve those issues. Your hypnotist can help you identify poor habits and/or anything in your physical environment that might prevent sleep, teach you relaxation techniques, and help you develop a sleep routine that programs your body and mind for sleep.

You will also learn how to use hypnosis to develop healthy thinking patterns, as worry and stress are the biggest causes of sleep troubles.

How Hypnosis Helps With Fear of Public Speaking

This is one of the most common of human fears and many people fail to reach their full potential because they avoid public speaking at all costs.

For some it is mild anxiety, for others downright panic. Dry mouth, rapid breathing that makes speaking clearly almost impossible, shaking hands and legs – these are all physical responses that many people experience when confronted with speaking in public.

Sometimes this fear stems from a past experience and by working with your hypnotist you can identify that experience, in a comfortable and safe setting, and then reprogram your mind so that you move past your fear and increase your self-confidence.

Your hypnotist can also teach you techniques that promote a calm and positive outlook, which will assist you in fulfilling your potential.
